Sophie & Davids Wedding at Owen House Wedding Barn

By On In Previous Wedding With No comments

Please feel free to click on the link below and have a read of this Blog by “Nicola Thompson Photography” from a Wedding we both worked on in July last year. Sophie & David’s Wedding was at Owen House Wedding Barn and was a fantastic day and night had by all. On the night I got to work with “The Beard Band” who were an excellent duo that I would recommend to anyone. The venue was great and self contained which is something I would recommend to any couple who may not have booked your venue yet. Having the bar in the same room as the dance floor can be the difference between a fantastic night and a sparse dance floor as it has to compete with the smokers/bar which are often in different locations. This is certainly something to consider when booking your venue and for this reason I recommend this venue as one that can be an asset to your day.

My Top 3 Tips on how to start Married Life with the best chance of success financially

By On In Financing With No comments

Start Married Life With Success Start Married Life With Success

Start Married Life With Success

Being an owner of an Event Company I often get the privilege to help Brides and Grooms plan their upcoming Wedding. Over the last 17 years this has baffled me as to why some couples split up within a few years and some thrive happily ever after?

I don’t have a magic scientific formula on this subject but I have seen a trend. Here are my:

Top 3 Tips On How To Start Married Life With The Best Chance Of Success Financially

  1. Avoid Debt at all costs!!!

If you cannot pay for your Wedding in cash then plan it for when you can. But why? As you start planning a Wedding costs can easily spiral. A Bride can sometimes snowball a Wedding Budget by adding lots of little things onto a wish list that they think matters but really it doesn’t in the greater scheme of things. I will talk more about this in Tip 3. My opinion is the best chance of making a marriage work is by having a great Honeymoon Period and I don’t just mean a holiday. Your early years of a marriage should be fun, exciting; not living hand to mouth worrying and arguing over debt.

  2. Whats mine is yours and yours is mine after the Wedding right?

Well it should be. Have the same checking/savings accounts, learn to agree on finances, start and finally work on a simple family budget. This can be a big adjustment. Ongoing frequent communication is key. You each have a say in your money. It’s both of your money even if there’s only one income. This is a significant point about adjusting to finances in that first year of marriage. Team Work makes the Dreamwork

  3. Downgrade your add-ons and Save Save Save.

Often by the time a couple gives the Evening Reception some thought they have already blown 80% of their budget. When allocating a budget you need to be savvy and pick items that will give you most bang for buck. The Evening Party is 40% of the day, so needs to reflect this in your budget allocation. If my daughter was getting married with a 10k budget my advice to her would be to spend 3-4k of that budget on Room Decor & Entertainment.  With this budget we could set the scene with the room to get people really motivated to have a great night. . £3000-4000 could give you a fantastic experience. But custom invites, Canapés, posh flowers, posh shoes, posh wedding cars offer little return to the overall success of the day for people on a tighter budget. In conclusion I recommend to cut back and save thousands of pounds investing some of your savings into the right Entertainment/Visual Decor. The success you will get from this will be massive in terms of less debt and an overall better experience for you and your guests.

Wedding DJ Novotel Worsley June 2016

By On In Venues With No comments

Wedding DJ

David & Siobhan got married at the Novotel Worsley in June 2016. The ceremony was at the beautiful St Peters Church in Swinton. If ever you want a church to make you go wow then this is it. The vicar was a lovely man and provided a well structured service.

After the ceremony the Wedding Party headed towards the Novotel Worsley for a Prosecco drinks reception. The venue on first impressions from the front of the building may look like a normal hotel but what you will find inside is a fantastic reception/bar area that is a good size for the guests to arrive and also for the Wedding Party to use once the room is getting it’s turnaround for the evening reception. To the back there is a patio are with a nice lush green lawn. The gardens are well cared for and offers potential for some outdoor pictures. Another option is a 3 min walk and you can have your pictures in Worsley Village with many opportunities for unique pictures by the picturesque canal.

On the day David & Siobhan booked a healthy amount of add ons that really complimented the room. I provided my All Day DJ Package that I provide Wedding Breakfast music, Mics and PA for the speeches and Evening Reception Disco. The add ons they choose was: Uplighting, Giant LED LOVE LETTERS, 10 x CANDLABRAS and DRY ICE 1st DANCE. Individually the cost of the all day DJ with all the add ons would usually cost £1710. But I offered 20% discount due to them booking multiple add ons. So they paid only £1368 which was a saving of £342 (The more you book the better the deal). We met up twice and spent 3-4 hours chatting about the day, planning and filling in booking forms etc.. The day before I spent 4 hours installing the uplighting and LED Letters. On the day I was there from 10am until 3am. So in total I had 24 hours invested in the wedding not including the 2 hours spent prepping the music and scripting the introductions.

The meal ran on time and the food was quick and of a high quality. Dave and Siobhan are Vegan and a lot of their guests were too. Novotel took care of this for them and the food was a hit that looked nice and the portions were a plenty.

Tina is the Event Manager and is willing to help you in anyway she can. I see a lot of room Managers but I can tell Tina has the experience as nothing is not possible with her and everything runs like clockwork which is ideal for any wedding dj.

Watch the video of how the day/night progressed

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZVsJ_K2r24

Check out the pictures below but you will see that the room is dressed with a white drape all the way round the room which gives it a semi Marquee look. These drapes really do change the room and make it look much better. Services I recommend for this room are:

  • Wedding DJ – Book your own DJ. All day is best but costs a little more
  • Uplighting (£14 each I found 20 units are needed to get the correct coverage)
  • LED LOVE LETTERS (Mine are not like the rest. They are 5’8″ Tall and 15ft Long. Very heavy and a real statement piece for any room £250)
  • Dry Ice 1st Dance (Dancing In The Clouds help the photographer capture unique 1st dance pictures and can help a nervous groom by covering the legs up the the hips if he doesn’t like to be on show. Many grooms love the dry ice for this reason)
  • Head Table Starlight Backdrop £220 Head Table Starlight Skirt £90 Starlight Cake Skirt £30

The Venue is a hotel and obviously has rooms that can be booked by your guests. The location of this hotel is just off the M60, M62, M602 and near the M6 and M56. So if your guests need rooms they need to book early as they get booked up early.

After the Ceremony the Party you put on for your guests is going to be whats remembered and is key to the overall success of the day. In my opinion its worth investing in your entertainment and lighting to create the right atmosphere and lasting memories regardless of if you book me or not. Good Luck and if you have any questions then don’t hesitate to get in touch and ask any questions

Mere Golf Club

By On In Venues With No comments

Natalie & Danny got married at Mere Golf Club in August and what a perfect day it was.

From start to finish the day went like clockwork and it was a perfect day. It was great working with www.PaulRitaller.com photography who I highly recommend as was it great to work with www.MarryMeFilms.co.uk who does some fantastic videography. The room on the day/night looked beautiful with the ceiling drapes and the white sparkly dance floor was the perfect finishing touch to the room.

Mere can cater for small intimate weddings all the way up to the bigger end of 550 guests. With 77 years experience they do a fantastic job. Another bonus of getting married here for the bridal party is if you stay over the night before you can pay extra to use the Spa Facilities and feel pampered for the big day.

My recommendations for a venue the size of Mere Golf Club is you should be willing to go big on your lighting and entertainment as the room can carry it well. By this my recommendations would be:

Uplighting (Choose what colour to make the venue walls match your theme) £14 per unit minimum of 12

Check out an uplighting video here

White LED Twinkling Dance Floor or Black Twinkling Dance Floor prices start from £450

Drapery (This adds opulance to the room giving the room a lift)

PhotoBooth or Mirror (The Mirrors are the new trend for 2016)

Monograms (Project your logo or Name/Initials onto a wall or dance floor)

Giant Love Letters with Heart (Mine are 15ft in length and nearly 6ft. Not the cheap flimsy ones)

The entertainment and lighting will set the scene and get it right you and your guests will have a party to remember for many years to come

The venue also has a hotel attached so be sure to get your guests rooms booked early to guarantee a room especially if they have to travel far to attend

Statham Lodge Lymm Wedding DJ and Lighting

By On In Venues With No comments

Statham Lodge Lymm

Early 2016 we celebrated Ashley & Joe’s Wedding at the beautiful Statham Lodge in Lymm. This venue really is a perfect wedding venue for a number of reasons… It is well a proportioned period venue that is well managed and maintained. It has beautiful gardens which are perfect on a summers day. Lush greenery and various props that are idea for beautiful wedding pictures. On this wedding I was booked to DJ and provide uplighting for the room. All night I was getting compliments of how well the room looked and even the venue staff were complimentary taking pictures for promotional material. Having done this venue a few times I always find it very professional and the staff attentive. Everything is to hand all day and contained within the room so guests all stay together. There is also hotel rooms you can hire if your guests want to stay over the night.

My recommendation for this room is:

Uplighting (Choose what colour to make the venue walls match your theme)

White LED Twinkling Dance Floor or Black Twinkling Dancefloor

Dry Ice 1st Dance (Dancing in the Clouds effect as seen on X Factor)

Drapery (This adds opulance to the room giving the room a lift)

PhotoBooth or Mirror (The Mirrors are the new trend set to explode in 2015/16)

Monograms (Project your logo or Name/Initials onto a wall or dance floor)

Giant Love Letters with Heart (Mine are 15ft in length and nearly 6ft. Not the cheap flimsy ones)

The entertainment and lighting will set the scene and get it right you and your guests will have a party to remember for many years to come.

Worsley Marriott Wedding DJ – Giant Love Letters

By On In Uncategorized, Venues With No comments

Worsley Marriott Wedding DJ – Giant Love Letters

Worsley Marriott is situated just off the East Lancs Road in Worsley Manchester. I have DJ’d here on many occasions and it’s one I always look forward to working here. The venue is ideal for weddings up to 200 people and has plenty off opportunities on site and a short distance by car if you wanted some special photo’s taking on your special day. The room is clean and tidy with modern fixtures and fittings. At this reception I provided my DJ Service, Room Uplighting and Giant LED Love Letters which as you can see the room looked stunning.

My Recommendations for the Worsley Marriott are:

Uplighting (I believe this room needs this effect to uplift it)

White LED Twinkling Dance Floor or Black Twinkling Dancefloor

PhotoBooth or Mirror (The Mirrors are the new trend set to explode in 2015/16)

Monograms (Project your logo or Name/Initials onto a wall or dance floor)

Giant Love Letters with Heart (Mine are 15ft in length and nearly 6ft. Not the cheap flimsy ones)

One thing to bear in mind is the bar. When I do Weddings I usually find when the bar is not in the same room as the guests the party suffers. You get the blokes stood around the bar, smokers outside and an half empty reception room where your DJ will be trying their hardest to get the party started. It makes things much more difficult so seriously think about this before booking your venue. In terms of the Marriott I find this venue manages to pull it off having the bar in a separate room. Without blowing my own trumpet it has been when we have put in a few of our services to make the room look fab and a good quality professional DJ. The success of your night depends on your entertainment and Disco Dave for £200 ain’t going to cut the mustard. Invest in the success of your evening and you will get a night to remember.

Lymm Hotel, Cheshire for Kim and Keiths Wedding

By On In Venues With No comments

In Summer 2014 I did a special wedding for Kim & Keith at Lymm Hotel in Cheshire. The venue is perfect for a smaller weddings of 100 or less. I provided my DJ services for the evening and also my dry ice 1st Dance. The Hotel has a few areas on it’s grounds for wedding pictures and adjacent to the hotel there is a country road that offers additional pictures near a lovely farm gate with some brilliant trees. Locally there is also Lymm Damm which is another option for photographs if needed. Dry Ice is a great way to get unique wedding pictures from your photographer. It is still a rare option as most Entertainment business still don’t have or use one. So guests have usually never seen one which will give your wedding the added wow factor. Dry Ice is also great for nervous dancers as it hides the knees downwards for the 1st dance. Cost is £190 and you usually get the 1st dance plus two more effects later in the evening.

Lymm Hotel, Wedding DJ Manchester

My recommendations for this hotel are :

The function room is small and limited which suits itself perfectly to a smaller wedding of 100 or less. The room would not be able to accommodate a band and lends itself perfectly to a DJ. A small White LED Twinkling Dance floor is possible at 12x12ft, Uplighting and Dry Ice. I would recommend you DON’T book LED Light Up Letters for this venue due to space constraints.

For the more intimate wedding then this venue could be ideal for you. I recommend a site visit first. Get in touch to ask me any more questions as I am more than happy to help where I can.

Mere Golf And Country Club

By On In Venues With No comments

Carla & Chris got Married in August 2014 at Mere Golf And Country Club. It’s a beautiful venue with some lovely grounds for pictures that create memories. The venue is very adaptable for party size. One point to make you aware of is sometimes there will be 2 or 3 parties on at the venue. This isn’t an issue as the parties are kept well apart but be aware you won’t have the venue exclusively. The staff are attentive and the service runs on time. I provided my full reception entertainment package and we had an awesome night with a full dance floor from start to finish…

My recommendations for a venue this size is you should be willing to go big on your lighting and entertainment as the room can carry it well. By this my recommendations would be:

Uplighting (Choose what colour to make the venue walls match your theme)

White LED Twinkling Dance Floor or Black Twinkling Dancefloor

Irlam Steelworks Wedding

By On In Venues With No comments

Irlam Steelworks Wedding Manchester

Mark & Mel got married at Irlam Steelworks Club in August 2014 and kept it local.

The full day was a very relaxed atmosphere and the fact it was in the same town most of the guests come from which was a big plus point. No guests had to worry about taxi’s and the bar was very well priced which can be a barrier at posh hotels for some guests. This led to a packed dance floor and fun had by all.

Irlam Steelworks Club have 3 function rooms but for a wedding only the main room is a viable option. On site there is also a kitchen that can be used for a small charge so catering can be done usually buffet style. Irlam Steel can cater for Weddings comfortably for upto 150 guests.

In the pictures below you can see how Mark & Mel hired from me the uplighting which worked really well. The 1st picture you can see they were bright in the day and the second picture you can see it’s now dark outside and the really do make the room pop! This room benefits from 14 uplights to get the best effect. This works out at £196 for all day hire.

My recommendations for this venue is to keep it simple. By this my recommendations would be:

Uplighting (Choose what colour to make the venue walls match your theme) £14 per unit minimum of 12

Dry Ice 1st Dance

Starlit Backdrop with Starlit Head Table Skirt and Cake Starlit Table Skirt

The entertainment and lighting will set the scene and get it right you and your guests will have a party to remember for many years to come
